Louisiana Wetland Field Trips

The goal of our coastal wetlands field trip program is to provide pre-college students with problem-based, real world science learning opportunities.

The students engage in hands-on science activities while exploring the wetlands either by canoe or on foot.

Each year we conduct 25 - 30 field trips for students in grades 4-12 in six parishes in the Lake Pontchartrain Basin.

Students learn about the values of the wetlands, collect and observe the fauna and flora of the wetlands, and collect water quality information.

Our favorite field trip sites include the LaBranche Wetlands in St. Charles Parish and Cane Bayou in St. Tammany Parish, but we offer a broad menu of field trip sites from which teachers may choose.

Some other sites include Tickfaw State Park, the Bonnet Carre Spillway and Shell Beach.
